Just a Song at Twilight
(A Work in Progress)
Set in a derelict theatre condemned to demolition, Betty — once a well-known Music Hall artist — is determined to stage a ‘sit-in’ to stop the bulldozers. However, not everything is quite as it seems, and there is the possibility of an unfolding ghostly mystery within the theatre walls.
This is a 50 minute show, created along similar lines to my puppet work — highly visual, playful, and full of Music Hall classics.
The show is ideal for intimate venues and cabaret-style settings, and can include a welcome cocktail for the audience, creating a relaxed and atmospheric evening of theatre.
‘A brilliant evening, such well-chosen, fascinating snippets from newspapers and magazines. All in all, a unique take on social history, which was very much enjoyed.’ - Hungerford Festival
Patricia Godwyn was the founder and Artistic Director of the award-winning Palm Court Theatre Orchestra and Company. At the height of its success in the 1980s and 90s, the company toured extensively across Britain, Europe, the Middle East and America.
She researched and wrote all of the scripts, curated the musical programmes, and designed the sets, as well as the distinctive posters and album sleeves that became part of the company’s identity.
Her work is rooted in a deep knowledge and love of the social and cultural life of Britain from the late 19th to the early 20th century. Growing up around her work, I experienced first-hand her attention to detail, theatrical flair, and passion for bringing history to life — something that continues to influence my own practice.
